                                Printing Information

What is Paper Stock?
Paper Stock, refers to the kind and quality of paper the job will be printed on. Paper stock is usually referred to in terms of weight, color and finish.

What is the paper Weight?
Weight #100 text, #100 cover, and 12 point card stock. Text weight is thinner and lighter than cover stock and is used primarily for flyers, brochures and catalogs.

Cover stock is thicker and heavier than text weight, but thinner and lighter than card stock. Cover stock is used primarily in flyers and brochures that require a little extra weight than the normal text weight, or for the outside covers of catalogs.
14 pointCard stock is heavier than text and cover weights and are used primarily for postcards, but also in quality business cards to resist bending.

What is AQUEOUS Coating?
Aqueous Coating is a clear, water-based coating that is applied over the ink to enhance shine and protect the surface. Aqueous coatings are applied to your printed sheet immediately following the inks. The sheets are sent through a heated air system that quickly dries the coating, permitting faster turnaround time and to achieve a more economical price than varnish. Aqueous coatings provide excellent rub and scuff resistance. Protection that far exceeds standard varnishes. Your product will be resistant to smudges, fingerprints and scratches during shipment through to end-use.Aqueous Coating gives your job a gloss finish but it is not a high gloss. It is a water-based coating and not detrimental to the environment. Most commercial print jobs and postcards use aqueous coating because it is a practical coating. It can be written on with most ball point pens and ink from mailer printers will adhere to this coating. Postcards should always be printed with aqueous coating because of this fact.

What is UV Coating?
UV Coating is a slick, glossy coating applied to the printed paper surface and dried on press with ultraviolet (UV) light. The high gloss surface of UV coating makes it eye catching, and therefore very popular for printing the covers of paperback novels and other print products that are meant to gain immediate attention. UV Coating is mainly popular among club flyers and other promotional items. It is not suggested to get commercial products or postcards. You cannot write on it.

What is CMYK?
Short for Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, and pronounced as separate letters. CMYK is a color model in which all colors are described as a mixture of these four process colors. CMYK is the standard color model used in offset printing for full-color documents. If we print cyan, magenta and yellow inks on white paper, they absorb the light shining on the page. Since our eyes receive no reflected light from the paper, we perceive black... in a perfect world! The printing world operates in subtractive color, or CMYK mode. In practice, printing subtractive inks may contain impurities that prevent them from absorbing light perfectly. They do a pretty good job with light colors, but when we add them all together, they produce a murkybrown rather than black. In order to get decent dark colors,
black ink is added in increasing proportions, as the color gets darker and darker. This is the "K" component in CMYK printing. "K" is used to indicate black instead of a "B" to avoid possible confusion over Blue ink. See the figure below to get a clearer view.

What is Offset?
Printing A printing technique whereby ink is spread on a metal plate with etched images, then transferred to an intermediary surface such as a rubber blanket, and finally applied to paper by pressing the paper against the intermediary surface. . Although the equipment and set-up costs are relatively high, the printing price is relatively inexpensive

What is Lamination?
Either Glossy or Matte very thin clear plastic film is glued onto the card stock. It is used to enhance the durability, look and feel.
